NIT Strategic Workshop Emerging Technologies for Future Optical and Wireless Networks September 8 & 9, 2003 Funding for UK-Canada exchanges and collaboration Julie Wright-de Hennin British High Commission, Ottawa Abstract. The talk will give an overview of the main sources of funding available for exchanges and collaboration, applicable to photonics / optoelectronics and related technologies and applications. Major funding bodies are looked at in the UK and Canada, with the focus on schemes which can be used for postdoc exchanges. Biography. Julie is a Science and Technology Officer at the British High Commission in Ottawa. The Science and Technology Team at the High Commission work to promote UK science strengths in Canada, to update science policy-makers on S&T developments, and to forge links between those who carry out science and technology research and development in Canada and the UK. Julie has a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Imperial College, spent over 3 years doing medical research at the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute in Sydney, Australia and then worked for high-tech fibre optic components company JDS Uniphase in Ottawa. She joined the British High Commission at the end of May 2002. More info: British High Commission
